Telephone befriending

Here at Changing Lives Together we aim to help people across Cheshire who are over 18 and living with loneliness or isolation in one of the most effective and simple ways possible - Simply by giving them the opportunity to talk.

We've been doing this since 2018 and our beneficiaries come to us from a wide range of sources such as: GP Surgeries, Social prescribers, housing associations, councils, social workers and support workers. We carefully match them with a volunteer who they can enjoy a friendly, interesting chat with once a week. More recently we have been engaging with the local emergency services to identify those who need our service most.

There is no single cause of loneliness, and no single solution but a simple connection to another person is one of the most important steps towards reducing social isolation and improving mental and physical health..

I would like to refer myself or somebody to the Buddy and Befriending project

“Having someone to speak to when i lost my wife really helped. It gave me a lift when i needed it and they understood what i was going through"
"I look forward to my call every week, and you couldn't have picked a better person for me to chat to. We have so much to talk about and i feel like i've known D for years!"
"Sometimes you need to talk about things that lift you, and my befriender always has something nice to say. She has helped me more than words can say and i wouldn't be the person i am today. I feel more like myself"

Face to face befriending

We understand that some people prefer to connect in person, and we are pleased to offer opportunities for face-to-face interactions through our group. This also gives those who work within our telephone befriending service an opportunity to join in with the groups and meet others.
